What are learning targets?

Learning targets, also referred to as standards, are what we expect students to know and be able to do by the end of each academic year. Learning targets are important because they help prepare students for their next year of learning, as well as their future success in college and the workforce. They set clear and consistent expectations for students, parents, and teachers; build your child’s knowledge and skills; and help maintain high goals for all students. In this way, learning targets aim to provide a clear roadmap for teachers, parents, and students. Teachers gather evidence of student progress towards each learning target and provide extra assistance, or challenges (as appropriate), in support of success for every student.
