
Students have produced beautiful works of art in the 1st Quarter! Hopefully you have had a chance to see the displays on the bulletin board in the lobby.
Thank you to all who ordered the "Square 1" art project of your child's artwork.
The funds go towards materials and guest speakers that make this program extra special for your children. A special thank you to Penny Chapel and Vicki Geddeis; they have spent many hours putting together this fundraiser.

The following projects were completed the 1st quarter:
2nd Grade:
Suns-the study of fractions & warm colors, (medium-pastels)
Still Life-the study of primary color & background, middleground,
Foreground, (medium-finger paint & wallpaper).
Fall Landscape-the study of how objects appear in the distance, the background, middleground and foreground, and how reflections are created in water, (medium-wet pastels and oil pastels).
3rd Grade:
Mola from San Bias Island-the study of warm, vibrant colors and patterns,
(medium-paper)
Still Life Mosaic- the study of shape and texture, (medium-wallpaper).
The Human Skeleton-the study of proportion in the human body & how to cut paper into fractions that equal the proportions, (medium-cut paper).
4th Grade:
Self Portrait-the study of proportions of the human face & the history and meaning of the face cards in a deck of cards, (medium-markers).
Flowers-the study of flower shapes and textures & the artist, Georgia O'Keeffe, (medium-pastel & ink).
Skeleton- the study of proportion of the human body & shading to show form, the study of Leonardo DeVinci, (medium-charcoal pencil and white chalk).
5th Grade:
Tessellations-the
study of geometric shapes, negative/positive space and pattern, & M.C.
Essure's creatures created with tessellation patterns, (medium-markers).
Landscape-the study of the Impressionist Artists, Claude Monet & Vincent Van Gogh. (Medium-Tissue paper collage).
6th Grade- 1st quarter projects:
Color Spectrum- Tissue Paper Collage/Stain Glass
Egyptian Print-engraved Styrofoam printing plate. Composition included a plant, animal, cartouche and boarder
Still Life - Shading to show form
Mask - Using many different textures to create a mask that is either a symmetrical or asymmetrical
Portrait - Study of the proportion of the human face, the Renaissance period and Leonardo De Vinci's Mona Lisa. Composition medium is tempura cakes.
Skeleton - Study of the proportion of the human figure. A follow up of the
Renaissance period and Leonardo. Creating a skeleton that is life size and
in
proportion. The medium is tempura paint. Work displayed during
the Jr. High Dance.
7th Grade- All Year, A, B, C Days split with Physical Education:
Color Wheel - Creating a paper Islamic Star and using markers, designing an original color wheel
Still Life - the study of the Impressionist Artist, Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh. Students sketched from a variety of still life examples around the room and used oil pastels to emulate the impressionist style with dashes of color.
Figure Drawing - The study of the Renaissance period and the Renaissance Man, Leonardo De Vinci. Using tempura paint and stippling brushes, creating a surface on the paper that resembles parchment paper, the study of one color - monochromatic, & how color that expresses a mood, (Examples of Edvard Munch, "The Scream").
8th Grade/1st Quarter, Daily:
Spectrum - The study of color and calligraphy. Using a pastel blend technique that demonstrates the order of the spectrum. Use a calligraphy pen to write a poem, lyric or short saying with the flow of the spectrum.
Abstract to Music - The study of nonobjective art & creating a composition of lines to the rhythm of music. The color scheme had 2-3 colored pencils and different shading techniques defined form inside the shapes created by the flowing lines.
Figure Drawing - The study of Pablo Picasso and the different art periods: Blue, Rose, and Cubism. After studying the proportions of the human figure, divide up the sketch into lines that create a cubistic style. Using the medium, markers to create pattern and design within the cubistic composition.
Self
Portrait - The study of "Pop Art" and the proportion of the human head.
Fluorescent paper was cut to emulate artists, Andy Warhol and Peter Max.
Artwork was displayed during the Jr. High Band Fall, "Rock en Roll" Concert.
Water Color- The study of different watercolor techniques with the subject matter being landscape and still life.
Assemblage Sculpture - The study of Modern Artists, Louise Nelson, Joseph Cornell, and Marisol Escobar. Students created a 3-Dimensional sculpture using an old shoe and objects. The sculpture needed to demonstrate a theme, balance, (visual as well as weight), creativity and craftsmanship.
