Health Activities

The National Association of School Nurses and Prairie Hill School believe that there is a clear connection between school nursing interventions and student success. School nurses play a crucial role as a primary care provider and as an educator in preventive health. Students must be in school, in class, safe, and ready to learn.

Health activities directed through the PHS health office include:

+ Sports physical clinic (for 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students, in preparation for the next year's sports activities)

+ Pre-School Screening (typically during March). Information about screening for children in our district who are 3, 4, or 5 years old is included in the January newsletter. The school offers screening for vision, hearing, speech and language, and developmental progress. Parents of children who will be at least 3 years old by the screeing date are encouraged to bring their children for the above screening tests. Please do not wait until the year of kindergarten entrance to have children screened. It is very important that the child feel comfortable at the school for that final screening year; visiting the school for additional screenings will help the child in future screenings.
